Bring litter – leave with art

Discover the surprisingly aesthetic qualities of marooned everyday objects. In this booth we explore materiality and ontology by having pieces of litter turned into empirical prints – unique, artistic monotypes.

We have devised a quite rudimentary, but fully mobile and handheld printing press system for making empirical prints on-location. Conference participants at 4s are invited to bring a relatively flat, small and hard object of their choosing and having it turned into their own artistic/academic monotype.

With the Empirical press we aim at turning litter into objects of inquiry and provoking participants to re-consider the ‘naturality’ of everyday items by making the natural seem exotic.
