Stanford STS – 3-year, renewable Lecturer position: apply by Feb 15 for Aug 2024 start

Stanford has been involved in a major remaking of introductory general education.  The University launched the COLLEGE program as a first-year requirement. You can read about its offerings here: Stanford is on the quarter system (3 quarters per year, roughly Sept-Dec, Jan-Mar, and Apr-June).

The Program in Science, Technology, and Society (STS) seeks to hire a lecturer who in addition to teaching two sections (one preparation) in one quarter of our COLLEGE course “Preventing Human Extinction,” would teach courses in STS and assist with developing and mounting our capstone requirement. The normal load of a Lecturer position is the equivalent of 6 one-quarter courses. One course may be replaced by administration, curriculum development, or other similar work.

This appointment will be for three years, with a possibility of renewal. Candidates should have a PhD in science & technology studies or a closely related field, such as sociology, history, anthropology, or media studies of science and/or technology. Successful candidates will have a PhD in hand no later than July 1, 2024. The position will begin on August 1, 2024 and the successful hire will be expected to attend the COLLEGE training program in August.
