Registration open for ISC Global Knowledge Dialogue LAC

To: All Members of the International Science Council (ISC) 

Dear ISC Member,

Registration for the ISC Global Knowledge Dialogue for the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region, to be held on 9 – 11 April 2024 in Santiago (Chile) is now open. We hope that all ISC Member organizations based in Latin American and the Caribbean as well as Member organizations with members/activities/a regional office, hub or network in the LAC region will be represented at this meeting. Participants are expected and strongly encouraged to cover their own expenses, however, the ISC has a limited number of bursaries available to enable the participation of delegates who require financial support. Please indicate your need for financial support in the respective section of the online registration form by 9 February.

1. Contribute your views to UNEP’s Convention on Biological Diversity For ISC Members and your networks

The United Nations Environment Programme’s Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is seeking your views related to the work programme of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) in addressing the scientific and technical needs to support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Please share this call with your members and wider networks and kindly ask interested experts to contact olivia.tighe@council.science. The deadline for contributions is 23 February. 2. Participate in IUPAC’s 2024 Global Women’s Breakfast For ISC Members and your networks

The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry’s annual Global Women’s Breakfast will be held on 27 February in 2024 with the theme “Catalyzing Diversity in Science”. Groups from all types of science organizations are invited to host and/or attend events to support overcoming the barriers to gender equality in science. 3. Sign the WCRP Kigali Declaration For ISC Members and your networks

During the World Climate Research Programme’s 2023 Open Science Conference, scientists from around the world discussed the current state and further evolution of inclusive international climate science, and the scientifically founded actions urgently needed to mitigate against and adapt to climate change. 4. Zoom sessions on global science-policy For ISC Members and your networks

Join the ISC Zoom meetings today, Thursday 25 January, or on 1 February, during which the ISC Secretariat will be providing information on recent developments in the ISC’s global science-policy work in the multilateral space and UN processes, the ISC’s related 2024 priorities and forthcoming opportunities for Members’ involvement in policy activities: https://council.science/events/isc-engagement-un-progress-priorities2024/.

5. ISC Extraordinary General Assembly For ISC Members only

ISC Members eligible to vote are kindly asked to designate a voting delegate for the electronic ISC Extraordinary General Assembly (28–29 February) by 15 February. On 28 February, the ISC President will present the proposed changes to the ISC Statutes and Rules of Procedure and their implications in two virtual sessions to the ISC membership.
