Process
This year the election was conducted earlier in the year due to the conference taking place in July. Nominations for open positions (President, four ordinary Council members, one Secretary, one 6S representative) opened on 15 January and closed on 29 February. During this time, we received one nomination for President, six nominations for Council, one nominee for Secretary, and three nominees for 6S representative.
The committee was concerned with there being only one nominee for president. Pollock invited Council to suggest more names to contact. After speaking with many potential candidates, Pollock received a positive answer from Ayo Wahlberg who became the second candidate. The committee presented the full slate to Council on 10 April. No objections or concerns were raised by Council within the time allotted. Virtual election opened to the vote of 4S membership between April 16 – May 10.
473 people participated in the election, which marks the highest recorded vote to date in 4S elections. On May 14, Özden-Schilling relayed the election outcome to all candidates, with Amanda Windle copied on emails. Unsuccessful Council candidates Federico Vasen and Paolo Parra Saiani agreed to be on standby should a Council member step down in 2024-25. They also agreed to be contacted to serve on 4S committees in an ex-officio capacity.
