Do you feel that the knowledge of patients is marginalized in medical practices?
That nurses’ skillful invisible work is insufficiently taken into account?
That organizational standards in hospitals fail to deal with individual differences?
That devices can play a crucial role in enacting values in health care markets?
And do you feel like putting some of your feelings to the test?
Situated Intervention is an experimental research approach aimed at the production of novel STS knowledge and new normativities through the direct involvement of STS scholars in the practices they study. If notions like ‘translation’ are to be taken serious, setting up organizational experiments that draw upon STS conceptualizations of practice, should lead to the modification of those very concepts.
Drawing on over a decade of organizational change projects in health care, this contribution explores what is learned by putting STS scholarly and normative attachments on the line.
