Teach Sewol is an educational initiative by a group of STS scholars and their colleagues to engage with the larger academic community and the public in analyzing and debating a series of recent disasters in South Korea. The project started as a response to the Sewol ferry sinking in April 2014, which led to the death of 304 people and generated heated debates on the causes of the sinking and the failure of the state in protecting its citizens. Teach Sewol aims to create a space (both online and offline) where researchers and members of the public share resources and class modules on the Sewol disaster and experiment with new forms of social investigation.
