Non-presenter registration is now open for the 4S 2021 conference. We welcome non-presenters to listen in on sessions, participate if and when invited by session chairs, peruse exhibits and visit with publishers, and join the informal networking sessions. Non-Presenter registration closes September 30th. If you are part of the conference program, please use the presenter registration.
Fees are organized around categories of fully employed and students/precariously employed/financially insecure, and then by region for equity purposes. Please use your own discretion on selecting this rate. We have 400 spots available for non-presenter registrants.
Fees are the same for members and non-members. Payment must be made by credit card, and transactions are in US dollars. Non-presenter registrations are non-refundable.

The 4S 2021 conference will be a virtual meeting, with opportunities for online socializing, as well as a tool kit for regional in-person meet ups and watch parties to supplement the conference.
The theme of this year’s conference is Good Relations: Practices and Methods in Unequal and Uncertain Worlds. The conference theme asks, what does it mean in practice to strive towards good relations as humans, with technologies, in our modes of knowing, within environments, across distance, and with other-than-humans? When we speak of good relations, we address ethics of care, frameworks of responsibility, and solidarity that span disciplinary and subject boundaries. We invite these reflections in relationship to the insurgence of white supremacy, the intensity of grief, and continuing struggles against long standing oppressions at personal and structural scales.
If you are on the conference program as a presenter, discussant, organizer, or chair, you must register in order to participate.
Putting good relations into practice, this year’s registration system is equity based. The sliding scale of registration fees is based on professional status and region of work affiliation.
Our registration uses a sliding scale based on affordability in terms of both employment/status and regional economic differences. The money raised during the 4S meeting not only supports the costs of the conference itself, but also all the annual business of 4S. This registration model is designed so that professors and other fully employed professionals make the largest contribution towards supporting 4S. We have endeavored to keep registration low for most participants to support participation across regions and employment statuses.
Please select the appropriate registration fee according to your Professional Status and the regional location of your work affiliation. The three regional categories are based on relative currency/economic strength of countries compared to USD.

All fees and transactions are in USD.
You can pay online by Visa or Mastercard immediately upon registering, or you may select the bill me option and print/download an invoice to be processed by your institution. Subsequent payment may be made online by logging back into your account to find the invoice, or may be paid by bank transfer. 4S strongly prefers online payment upon registration, for obvious reasons: pursuing people for payment is a nuisance for all involved.
Nearer the conference, we will make available a steeply discounted registration for people who are not on the program but would like to attend the conference.
Through July, cancellation requests will be honored with a full refund. During August, cancellations will be accepted with a refund of 50%. Any cancellations after August 31 will not be refunded. If you must cancel, please notify the meeting secretariat [meeting@4sonline.org], the 4S administrator [webmaster@4sonline.org], and (if known) your session chair.
